World Bangers Haute Dog on the first day of 2008

Although we did have so much food at our New Year’s Eve dinner, we decided to check out the Glorietta crowd and see what’s new for 2008. But to my disappointment, the Glorietta was closed on New Year’s day so we decided to visit the Power Plant Mall instead. Thankfully, Rockwell was open though several shops were closed. The theaters were open but since the Metro Manila film festival was still in season, I could not see the movies I liked. So off we went to dine simple.

The common craving for the day was for hotdogs and what better place to eat hotdogs than at the World Bangers Haute Dog. Their “haute” dogs were haute indeed as the French mean high-end or high fashion when they say haute. Not the usual hotdogs from 7-11 or Purefoods fare, World Bangers serves the meanest hotdog meals you will ever have this side of Makati. Their food is slightly more pricey than most, but are well worth it.

They don’t have large shop like KFC or Kenny Rogers at the Power Plant Mall’s Basement level, but they do have a lot chairs outside their kiosk that attracts a fairly loyal crowd. So I thought to myself, if these people kept coming back, why shouldn’t I? And so I did a McArthur and indulged myself anew.

I had this one, the Classic German, a large sausage topped with a blanket of sauerkraut and a generous serving of mustard. Each meal had a glass of soda and your choice of two sidings; I had mac and cheese with German potato salad. The damage for the this plate? P160.00 (US$4.00).

Noreen had this one. So very sorry for forgetting it’s name. I think it was called Caramelo or something. My apologies to World Bangers fans. A large sausage on a fresh bun with blue cheese dressing and some greens. Really delish! Also P160.00 (US$4.00) a plate, with mac and cheese, fries and soda.

Weng had an appetite of a Texan so he had a Texan Chili Dog, with mac and cheese, fries and tall glass of Coke. All for P160.00 (US$4.00) too.

Eden had the more sedate Swiss Mushroom Melt. It’s one of their bestsellers at P150.00 (US$3.65) a plate.

The next time you’re at the Power Plant Mall and you suddenly feel this urge for extraordinary hotdogs, you know where to go.

Happy New Year folks!
