Delifrance, an international brand serving the best European sandwiches, pasta dishes and pastries now serves spiked coffee! No need to spike your coffee when nobody’s looking, it’s out in the open and can be had in style with along with your favorite Delifrance delights. Last night, Delifrance launched their new line of spiked coffees which they call spiked after five.

Being a non-coffee drinker, I don’t know much about the coffee culture as promoted by Delifrance, which has a more European taste and heartily encourages having heavy meals with your coffee. While some American coffee places want to keep their coffee purely coffee, Delifrance gives us more variety in taste by introducing spiked coffee. I’m a non-coffee and non-alcohol drinker which made it more interesting for me. When I tried it the first time, I was surprised that it had no after-taste from the alcohol. I really hate the after-taste, not to mention the hazards of drunk driving. Brad Geisler reiterated that spiked coffee doesn’t get you drunk. It just buzzed. A right enough sensation when you’re out with your friends and a good way to unwind after a stressful day at the office. Warm coffee is comforting, but because I have bad teeth, cold is better for me. And because they have spiked coffee both warm and cold, I’m a happy camper.

Since they are part of the Jollibee food corporation, expect no less from Delifrance chefs as they cook up the most scrumptious delights. But, take heed. They will no longer serve rice meals. If you want to eat rice, there’s always Chowking , Jollibee or Greenwich. So as a special treat for the bloggers, they served us the following:

Lo and behold, the hors d’oeuvres.

The samplers.

This one was so good, I had to give it a “solo”. It had blue cheese inside.

A refreshing salad to start the feast.

The Seafood Marinara Pasta was awesome. A lot of shrimp, squid, tofu, linguini and veggies swimming in glorious tomato marinara. The garlic baguette was helpful in allowing me to scrape my plate of any misguided saucy patches. Really, really good.

Then there was the Seafood Clubhouse Sandwich, which I only managed to down half. I wanted to take home the other half, but I felt embarrassed to ask for a doggie bag, haha. Shame on me if I did ask because there was more to come.

The delightful surprise of the evening. The flaming chocolate lava cake. I tried so hard, but I just couldn’t take a picture that included the flames. Before serving, they would pour brandy over it and spontaneous combustion would take over. The problem was that it was up and out in a few seconds that my camera phone couldn’t capture the moment. But no worries, you can have this wonderful dessert for only P75.00 (US$1.80) and experience the excitement up close. It’s a flaming dessert without inflaming your budget.

Even more wonderful was when I tasted it. The chocolate sauce just spilled after the first dig of my spoon and the delicious lava of a dessert flowed into the plate. I really highly recommend you try this dessert because it’s not so sweet and you can taste a hint of the brandy that fuses so well with the chocolate sauce. Truly heavenly!

So, what’s my poison? There were two. Mayan Passion Kahlua.

And Sputnik Vodka Espresso.
