Red Ribbon’s S’mores Chocolate Cake
Yes, Ninang Lyn, I know you recognize this logo! It’s one of my most favorite cake shops too. I also remember your old favorite Merced Bakeshop! I wonder where they are now. I remember back in the 1980s you would bring boxes of Merced Bakeshop goodies, which in the 1990s and early 2000, were replaced by Red Ribbon goodies. This morning when I visited you, I think I saw Kuya Jojo bring in a box of Red Ribbon’s S’mores chocolate cake. I bet it’s your favorite too.
Do you know where the S’mores chocolate cake started? It was derived from the S’more snack, which is made of toasted marshmallows, fudgy chocolate sandwiched between two Graham crackers. I read somewhere that the Girl Scouts “invented” this treat because they like talking around campfires. Why the name? That’s because the name was derived from the words “some more”, which was all you could really say when you still have a mouthful and someone asks you if you want another one.
Red Ribbon has this cake in two sizes, junior, which is good for two to three persons, and regular, which is good enough for four to six people. A junior S’mores chocolate cake is just right for Noreen and myself. Yes, we do have large appetites and that’s because we love S’mores chocolate cake.
Here’s a cross section photo! Cake, mallows, Graham crackers, mallows, then cake. There’s some caramel on top too. If you get hungry, ask Kuya Jojo for a slice, that is, if you still have some left in the fridge, hehe. Go ahead and indulge, at least you’re not diabetic and your doctors allow you to eat anything, in moderation, that is.

Hi there. You mentioned Merced Bakeshop — last time I passed Edsa near SM North, it was still there. It’s very near the Edsa gate of Philam Homes. I like their egg pan de sal. Haven’t gotten a chance to try any of their cakes, though.
Nice blog. Makes me a little hungry…
