Crepes and Cream: Savory Goodness to Go

The crepe, as we know it today, didn’t start out as purely for dessert, like how most Filipinos would eat it. The crepe originated in the Northwest region of France known as Brittany. It strikes me as a nice way to conserve on ingredients if you live in an area where flour doesn’t come cheap. Crepes can be eaten with hazelnut spread and fruits, making it a great dessert. Or you can also add meats and vegetables making it a great choice for a heavy lunch on the go.

Crepes and Cream, premier creperie in the Philippines, brings to you the best sweet and savory crepes at the most affordable of prices. The crepe that you see above is Crepes and Cream’s hazelnut crepe. It only costs P75.00 (US$1.57) apiece. It’s my personal favorite because it’s simple and easy to eat as a take-out. For those who want ice cream with the crepes, there are offerings that not only have ice cream but fruits with almonds as well!

This Banana Hazelnut crepe only costs P135.00 (US$2.81). The batter mix they use comes directly from Singapore. It doesn’t taste bitter when it’s slightly toasted and is quite crispy after it is cooked.

What came as a complete surprise to me is that savory crepes are just as great-tasting as the sweet ones. I ordered the Taco Crepe, also P135.00 (US$2.81), and the smell was wafting throughout the restaurant while they were preparing it. It is much bigger than a sandwich and is very easy to eat. No drips, no mess!

For their savory crepes I tried two of the best, the Taco Crepe and the Corned Beef Crepe. Top that with a Javalicious mocha drink which is hardly too sweet and the rest of our day is made.
