24 September, 2009 (19:21) | events | By: Arpee

Yes and I am just as excited as everyone else (even if I’m not a finalist). More awards to give out and more categories to join. Pinoys abroad will have better chances of being recognized as well as advocacy bloggers and humor bloggers. There are just so many things to watch out for, so why don’t you go to the Philippine Blog Awards website for more details on how to join, nominate or be a sponsor (like me [drink healthy, drink Aqua Health]).

Just now I received a nasty call from the number 0920-9705881, a post-paid number no less. Some lady named Carla said my name was selected from an SM raffle because I won a brand new Honda City. Luckily for me, I wasn’t at all swayed by all her babble about winning, winning, winning!!! Firstly, I NEVER shop at SM Megamall because it’s far from my residence. There’s a Super 8 Club next door and I have no need to travel when doing groceries.

Then Carla says the call is recorded along with all the spiels that the call is legitimate. Even gave me her office number, complete with extension (755-1562 local 4018). I was asked what sort of IDs I have and when I said I have SSS and a passport, she goes on to say that it’s not the ID they need. She says I NEED A CHECKING ACCOUNT OR A CREDIT CARD as their ID of choice. TALAGA LANG HA?

When I said that only my wife has a checking account, all of a sudden, SYA NA DAW YUNG REPRESENTATIVE! All I need to do daw is call them back and they will make me come to their office to spin some dastardly wheel, claim a premium gift and bring home the blasted car. People who know me are well aware that I WILL NEVER BUY A HONDA because you can’t use it as a taxi cab and my loyalty to NISSAN and MITSUBISHI is way past my financial capabilities.

These people at Philippine Prudential should be sued or something. They dupe people into thinking they won something only to make them waste their time and sit through a presentation then force-sell their products to people who really can’t afford it. Hey, there has got to be a better, effective and legitimate way to sell insurance! They’re behaving like Family First and all those other scammers who cheat us out of our life savings.

And I told Karla that if she wanted to sell me insurance, she should have just told me flat out. I am looking for non-life insurance, but after this fiasco, I WILL NEVER BUY FROM PHILIPPINE PRUDENTIAL LIFE.

If Philippine Prudential DOES make someone win just to prove it’s not a scam, think again. There’s a multitude of people out there that you’ve already duped. If you need to prove something, return THEIR money AND CHANGE YOUR MARKETING STRATEGIES! It’s insulting! Your methods only show what you really think of your clients.

Win Toblerone Gift Packs just by saying “thank you”!

Wouldn’t you want to win a Toblerone Gift Pack just by saying “Thank you” to the very people you owe it to? See how at the bottom of this article.

A Greatly Grateful Country

After weathering a lot of problems, the country has much to thank for.
Despite all the crises and issues the nation has faced, the Filipino has risen above it all – revealing an indomitable spirit fueled by a cheerful, optimistic nature that is truly praiseworthy. And a popular international Swiss chocolate brand believes that this inherently Pinoy character is an amazing reason to celebrate.

In the previous National Thank You Day spearheaded by Toblerone, Filipinos proved to the world that the country is united in gratefulness – debunking the Reader’s Digest survey which claimed that the Philippines is one of the least courteous nations in the world.

“We believe that the country counts as one of the most accommodating and hospitable people in the globe,” says Carlo Licuanan, Snacks Category Marketing Manager of Kraft Foods (Philippines), Inc. “And with this successful, well-attended event, Filipinos showed the world that they are not afraid to express their overwhelming appreciation for the good things and people in their lives.”

And the importance of expressing gratefulness resonated so much in different sectors of society, that even the City of Manila acknowledged the need for its citizens to step up and say thank you to the ones that deserve it most.

In a statement by incumbent Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, he declared October 20 as the city’s official Thank You Day – making the city the first in the country to have done so. The mayor commented that it was sad that, for a city known for its warmth, its citizens were showing less gratitude.

Yet, Toblerone wants this spirit of thankfulness to extend further to the whole country – with different cities joining in to show support for this noble cause.

“We hope this would become a nationwide effort. We really believe it’s time to show the world that we know how to pay it forward – and that when we do, we do it with truly grateful hearts,” says Licuanan.

Join Toblerone as they celebrate the National Thank You Day Awards on October 20, 2009 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall and see the unveiling of one notable Filipino personality from whom a grateful nation will choose to say a resounding ‘thank you’ to. All you need to do is ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Do I have a blog, facebook, multiply or any other personal website?
  2. Do I have a digital camera and love taking pictures?
  3. Do I want to win?

If you answer is a resounding YES to all these questions then start thinking about how to compose the photograph that best expresses your gratitude to the person or persons who you think most deserve it. Could be your mom, your friend, your relatives, your mayor, Barangay Captain or even the building guard who hails the cab for you every afternoon.

Now, once you have composed the photograph, post it in your website so we can all see it! You can post it through Facebook, Multiply, your blog, Geocities (if you still have one, I heard they’re closing on October 26th) and any other website that can generate a link that we can all visit.

So you got the picture, uploaded to your website and have the link. Last step is to paste it in the comments section of this post! Yes, this post! Then the judges will go their thing and select the best pictures. If yours is selected, then you get to win a Toblerone gift pack! By the way, your pictures will also be available at the Toblerone Thank You website gallery, for all the world to see. And your name shows at the credits!

I suggest you start conceptualizing and start clicking away! It’s more than chocolate, it’s the sweetness of gratitude!

Recently I had dinner with some friends and we were looking for a good place to eat inside the Global City so we won’t have to brave Makati traffic just to find good eats. Lo and behold Burgos Circle, Forbes Town Center, Global City, Taguig, where you will find my latest find, the Original Mile Hi Diner.
