Hunan Lutong Bahay: Authentic Hunan Cuisine in Makati
This is the entrance of Hunan Lutong Bahay. Inside, the place is homey and the service is personalized, the kind you’d get from a first-class restaurant. Don’t be fooled by this plain-looking exterior. There is more here than meets the eye.
This is their pumpkin cake. It’s sticky rice engulfed in pumpkin and fried to perfection. It’s not sweet, nor savory. It’s just plain pumpkin cake, which is one of the most popular dishes in Hunan cuisine.
What is Hunan cuisine?
Hunan is located on the Southern part of the China where the Xiang rivers runs through this province. Because there is much abundance in this area, they have the luxury of changing their menus along with the seasons. In the summer, Hunan diners can be seen eating cold meats with chilies because they believe spicy food will open their pores and help them cool off. In the winter, hot pot is the most popular because they believe it heats the blood, not to mention saves fuel because of the hot pot’s communal sharing of the broth. Hunan cuisine is generally known to be hot and spicy.
This is their Hot Pot Chicken, P400.00 (US$8.34). At first taste, it wasn’t spicy at all, which urged me to continue eating a lot more. Then you will feel a slow crescendo of hot spice rising inside your palate. Your face turns red and you start to feel the heat. Soda wouldn’t help, so I suggest you get the ice herbal tea, which is so good. Healthy for you too! For as little as P20 (US$0.41) they give you unlimited steamed rice. All the rice you can eat for as little as P20.00 (US$0.41)! It’s a real steal.
A dish good enough for two or three people, for only P180.00 (US$3.75). This is their Bamboo Shoots with Pork. We had to request that they hold the chilis, because the chicken was already too spicy for us.
This is a wonderful place if you want to eat REAL HUNAN cuisine. They are located at 6404 Camia St. near Rockwell behind the Metro Club. Call them at 0915-4252972. You will not regret it.

What did you mean by near UP? Is this the Camia Street and Metro Club near Rockwell? I have been told that this place also serves good vegetarian options.
