PPLIC Goes To A New Low
A rant I once wrote about the Philippine Prudential Life Insurance Corporation (PPLIC) was all directed at how unscrupulous their agents have been in selling insurance. Not only have they become aggressive, they’ve become deceitful. The purpose of this rant is for PPLIC people to please police their agents and stick to “white hat” tactics. There is no debate about life insurance being an important thing to have. I personally believe in investing in life insurance. My whole family is insured under Philam and despite their problems with the AIG fiasco, I sleep soundly at night knowing that Philam Life will take care of my family in case I die before my time. I’m sure PPLIC aims to do the same for their customers, but your methods of selling it is really despicable. And when someone like me rants about it in my blog, these are the kind of comments that I get from YOUR PEOPLE.

All from the same IP address sent on August 6, between 10:19 am to 11:15 am.
This says a lot about how things work in your organization. It is reflective of what your vision and mission is based on. If you at PPLIC just wanted to silence me, all you could have done was write me an apology email saying you promise to mend your ways and I could have posted it here for you. A simple email that explained why your agents have become deceitful and have promised prizes and all just to compel them to buy insurance.
There is such a thing as soft sell and that is usually more effective than what PPLIC agents are doing now. You might want to look in on that. Because of the subtlety of soft sell, my whole family got ALL their insurance needs from Philam Life. And we were spending load to call the agent. Their insurance plans sell themselves, as it is also with other reputable insurance companies like Sunlife, Insular Life, Ayala Life, etc.
To PPLIC people, DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME SPAMMING MY INBOX! You have a lot of brainstorming and LEGITIMATE SELLING to do.

This is sick! i have a few questions tho. me and my brother stumbled upon these vultures and it makes me sick. I was waiting outside of their conference hall or the place where their agents come to talk to you. My brother and I we’re just in it for the free bags they were giving away(being cheapos =D). Anyway I was hesitant going in the room so i stayed outside by the door looking into this hall. After 5 or so minutes of standing there a total of 4 + 1 supervisor approached me asking me to sit down. I repeatedly refused to sit down cause i was surveying the area. UNTIL the manager decided to play low, by saying “nakakasagabal ka sa daan (although there were 2 doors)”, I replied “Bakit may masama ba kayong ginagawa kaya nyo ko pinapaupo?!, hindi ba gusto ko din maupo sa luob kanina pero pinagbawalan nyo ako?!” Finally she replied ” E kasi hindi ka qualified e (due to me not having a credit card) anyway it turned out to be a high volume exchange of words and me barging into that hall telling my brother to leave already…..In the end we came out 45minutes older, exhausted and was still able to get the said free bag.
QUESTION THO, what do these guys get by checking out your credit card? I want to take action and do something about this horrible modus operandi.
That’s all i Guess…
P.S. Also noticed most the male employees they have are faggots i mean feminate men, explaining the gay lingo seen in those bogus comments
same pplic routine happened to my boyfriend and i last weekend. we endured two hours of presentation on how the company wants to “help” us save money. we didn’t buy pplic’s policy (buti na lang, hehe).
i think pplic is pursuing such strategy because it works, for obvious reasons. within that two hours, about five applicants signed for a policy – an average of 25 policies in a day, per pplic branch.
what’s sad is that most of those who signed seemed to be in a state of shock. i think the clapping is intended to make them feel confident about their decision, but the way they looked tells me otherwise.
thanks for your blog arpee. we will spread the word.
hahahaha..yah dats true..
nging employee dn me s PPLIC but 3 days lng me,,22o nanloloko lng cla kaya nga ngresign me agad..ndi q nga lam qng bkit cla ng exist puro bastos at msama ugali ng mga tao dun kya wagkau maniniwala plz spread spread my message..umiwaz kau sknla ha!!!s lahat ng branch ..i hate wat dey r doing!!!dapat lahat ipakulong..WAG KAU MANINIWALA!!!
I’m currently researching on this company. parang ang dami nyong galit. I just want to ask, if they are indeed a scam, how come they are on the list of 2010-11 accredited life insurance?.
check them here: http://www.insurance.gov.ph
I just wanted to make sure that I get the real deal on what I read. thanks ^_^
oh sorry not think rich pinoy. the other personal finance book, the one written by alvin tabanag.
don’t take our word for it. why don’t you try investing in PPLIC yourself? you may go to Megamall or SM north and try it for yourself. then post your honest feedback here. seriously, we might be wrong.

They think ok yung ginagawa nila.

@tin-a-pie: pplic is legit, however their marketing strategy is UNETHICAL. i agree with arpee, why don’t you see for yourself?
@tin-a-pie: PPLIC was indeed listed in my book as a licensed life insurance firm based on the list from the Insurance Commission. However, a company being legitimate doesn’t necessarily mean that all its activities are legal or ethical. I’m not saying though that PPLIC is in fact doing illegal or unethical activities because I don’t have all the facts. But I guess there’s also merit to the complaints about their tactics. Marami kasi ang nagrereklamo, hindi lang iisa.
Anyway, has anybody made a formal complaint about this issue to the Insurance Commission? Can anybody provide me details/summary of these so-called “unethical” practices so we can forward it to the Insurance Commission for investigation and appropriate action. I am also crusading against financial firms that mislead, cheat, shortchange or steal from ordinary people.
You can send the info to alvintabz@yahoo.com or text me at (0917) 502-3149.
Maraming salamat.
Really hard sell. But they are very methodical about it which makes me think that they’ve prepared for any formal complaints sent to the commission.
The only way we can expose them is to spread the word. And is it true that they are awarded Superbrand status? It’s one of their standard lines at the beginning of the sales talk.
@Tin-A-Pie: I’ve read your comments. Actually, kka-sign ko lng ng policy kaninang umaga eh, although thru debit card and they don’t actually sell the plan parang they let us decide kng how much ung ise-save namin. And the system is watever money you put in ur savings eh 1 yr mo d muna makkuha un kc they so-called it “time deposit” and then the succeeding years eh savings mo na yun, but before that they’ve given us 3 privileges, 1) accidental life insurance 2) 2yr scholarship voucher from Datamex and 3) cash raffle coupons worth P50,000. Since, nsabi mo nman na iimbestigahan mo ito, pwede ba keep us an update regarding this matter? I would be thankful kpag na-justify na at nasagot ung mga queries sa akin. thanks and God bless!
am i a victim?

Pagkakamali ko na nagpadala ako sA pang akit nila na “FREE RAFFLE FOR A CHANCE TO WIN A HONDA CITY OR A TRIP TO MACAU”. When we got home, first thing we did is to research about PPLIC sa internet and we found this article. Sa ngaun naidownload ko ung video sa XXX about them and we will go back to SM Pampanga para ipacancel ung Policy na kinuha ko kahapon. Knowing na may ganitong issue ang company nila, ayoko na magpaloko ulit for the second time.
sana Help tayo kung sino man makaka-help.
i was one of the victim too.. hours after buying their policy, i read the documents handed to me by their agent. i was really beginning to be doubtful that time. buti na lang, on the documents, nakita ko na you can cancel your policy application 15 days after filing.. i went back to the sm north branch a day after i filed my application. the customer service personnel talked to me first for about 30 minutes, persuading me not to cancel my application. then, for another 30 minutes or so, i was referred to the manager. and he was really determined not to give my money back. pero decided na din ako to cancel it kaya ayun. when i said that my father is currently taking up law and that he has many lawyer friends, the manager finally gave up and asked me to write a letter declaring na i want to cancel my application nga.. i was advised that the money will be deposited straight to my account 2 months after that. Last january, bumalik naman yung pera..
^_^ so BEWARE OF THEM PEOPLE…
Incredible post there bro. I will visit this page frequently!!!
The PPLIC officials most responsible and/or who condone such despicable marketing tactics are: Robb Paulsen (AVP for Retail Marketing; mall branches) as well as Rose Marie Evangelista (VP for Direct Marketing; health and education plans). The Mercado family, who owns the company, condones these dirty tactics just to make a quick buck. No wonder stats from the Insurance Commission show that PPLIC has yet to surpass the 15th rank in terms of performance.
Erratum: Mr. Paulsen is an EVP, not an AVP. Furthermore, PPLIC’s president and CEO is Gregorio “George” Mercado. Other Mercado’s in the PPLIC roster are his brothers, Daniel III (SVP) and Jose (EVP for Finance.
To those duped by PPLIC: The best avenue for complaining is the Insurance Commission, and, if possible, with media companionship to ensure action on the part of the government agency. The XXX expose was not the first, and, I’m sure it won’t be the last. Mon Tulfo and Ganni Oro of DZBB also received complaints against PPLIC.
I was almost victimized by this Insurance Co. yesterday Aug 1, 2011 at SM Cebu.oMG, i really was doubtful from the very start because they want clients who have credit card, atm and the other one i forgot!though i went with their “flow” they did not able to make me sign up something..
and then they’ll ask you, “what keeps you hold back from registering ma’m? and so on and so forth. “doesn’t your husband like it to save for your son?”
at kapag ayaw mo talaga, sasabihin pa nila na, paano kung may mangyayari sayo mamaya?how cruel these people are, huh? hay naku buti na lang di ako nag sign up..pero may mga nag sign up talaga, as in naloko!imagine some of the people they deceived are living now abroad!from Norway , down to Australia.
Nag sit-in kami ng misis ko sa office nila sa SM Cebu (2 home trips ago) but I was not convinced and I did not avail.
Again, I will be going home to Cebu next month (September) and would like to get an insurance policy for myself and probably for my wife. Meron ba kayong suggestions for a trusted insurance company?
Salamat!
panalo ka pre! they just called me a few mins ago and told me i won a free educational plan for my kid! i asked them what company they are and they said phil. prudential. good thing i was online so i immediately typed “philippine prudential scam” and found your site!!! bravo pre! keep it up
by the way, i live in davao and they said they just “expanded” their trade here… wawa naman ang mga nabiktima nila.
to quote a year-old post by eloisa: Sunlife na lang or Manulife or Philamlife or Ayala Life… old REPUTABLE companies.
why are you putting much negativity to their promo/marketing strategies? if you don’t want to attend to their company presentation then, why allow yourself to sign for their waiver, be enlisted to their promo and avail a policy?
PPLIC for me is not a scam..
for we call something a SCAM if they obtain money from us by means of deception including fake personalities, fake photos, fake template letters, non-existent addresses and phone numbers, forged documents which is (I believe) not being not being practiced by PPLIC (coz i got all original policy documents when I availed the policy)
I attended the whole company presentation here in CDO a month ago to check the flow of their so called “scam strategies” and I find nothing!
tho the whole presentation lasted for about an hour and a half not 45mins as what the promo agent informed me,,, nung nakapunta nga kami sa office nila I was hesitant for the lady in the reception area confirms na 45mins is their standard time…so, at the back of my mind…huhu at least 45mins for me to join their promo..WTH… peo I went through the whole process and availed a policy which I find very helpful naman din. They didn’t force me to avail the policy for i was confirmed how many times thru written and oral discussions… siguro.. I realized later na Filipinos are not open to these new promo and marketing strats…
Hello, Mr Arpee,
May I have some inquiry? I already cancelled my PPLIC plan. Do I have nothing to worry? Because I did not received anything yet? According to them It should process within 30 to 45 days! My gosh!!! Its really dismayed me. They are so much easily eager to get my money and Now very hard to get. Lesson Learned, I hope I really learned, that every time somebody approached me should not to entertain, because they always say You just play, You just watch , You just anything? Beware because they always target your Money and nothing else. They really earned from that money? Now I’m still worrying if they really return my money? Because the only things I had is, they give me the cancelled SOA copy, the photocopy of the Confirmation of Plan, & the OR plus the words of their customer representative. They said they will not issue Cash or Check, it will automatically reflect in my ATM! Im still big question HOW?
Please Help me, is it really their process? Do I have anything to do now?

Ive just been a victim, ngayon ko lang nrealize nagssisisi ako nag avail ako. What shall i do? i want my money back 8200 ung nswipe s akin please help!!!!! mccancel p b un?
i was victimized yesterday. i will try to cancel it, pero sana di ako mahirapan, kasi from the posts i read na talanga pipilitin daw nila na wag mo icancel. any tips regarding that?
i also had this experience last November 2011, i signed up and got a policy… but after that, nagsisi ako at bakit ako nagdesisyon agad, i was not happy but i thought wala na ako choice but to continue…accidentally, i am trying to check their status because i just recently watch the news about prudential plans and i thought it was related to PPLIC.. and to my surprise, i got into this and have read about the sentiments of many…mas lalo na ako nag-worry ngayon, and i also wanted to cancel my plan.. what will i do? if i remember it right, the agent with the manager even interviewd me while having it on video cam.. and they keep on telling me na voluntary ang pagsignup ko at walang pilitan, can it be taken against me at pag i cancel it, wala na ako marefund… i admit, napaniwala nila ako and in just less than an hour, they made me said “YES”.. please some advice, by May 2012 po kasi magstart na ako ng monthly premiums… sanA MAPACANCEL KO BEFORE mag mAY this year at ayoko na rin po kasi talaga…
I was a victim too before.. December of 2010, but luckily I got my money back after a month.. Same story as the others here. If you are really decided to cancel the policy then follow this steps:
1. Make sure you are still within the 15day period… luckily I saw this on the papers that they handed to me.. This can also be your prime reason to cancel.
2. Make sure you have someone to back you up.. The agents are persistent in convincing you not to cancel and will psych you up by saying “we didn’t force you to avail this product”.
3. Documentation – photocopy all the papers receipts that you have…
4. If they have not convinced you to cancel, they would probably hand you a piece of paper for you to write a cancellation letter… Mind you it took them at least 30 minutes to ask their head to sign this letter too..
5. Then wait for at least a month for your money to be returned.
During our conversation, I told them that they really have a deceptive marketing strategy. The reason they gave you when their agents approached you outside their office is not the same. Once you willfully go with them inside, the “policy seminar” will turn into a transaction which is totally bogus.
