For me, that made all the difference because this man has been quite the inspiration to me and to other people in the world. For many years I always wanted to be an entrepreneur and to this day, I have never stopped trying. When I found out that Colonel Sanders began his chicken empire when he was 65 then that really made me dream big. It only took Colonel Sanders his retirement cheque to start what has become one of the world’s biggest and most well-loved food brands spanning several generations, including mine and perhaps the rest of the 21st century.
Before it all started, the man did have a bright idea. And a wonderful recipe for fried chicken, which I assume, he must have learned from someone in his work or family, considering that country fried chicken is a staple in the American Midwest. However, not all people are aware that it wasn’t always smooth sailing for the Colonel. While at the height of his success, his first restaurant needed to close down because its location was right smack in the middle of the construction of an interstate. Because of this, the Colonel did not lose faith and banked on the popularity of his chicken and the world-famous gravy. He later went into franchising and became the billionaire fast-food icon he is today. Harland Sanders died of cancer in 1980. He was 90 years old.
Now KFC is a piece of fried chicken heaven. I like going to KFC because, well there’s one beside our building and they’re open 24 hours. Second, KFC is affordable and has a lot of choices. I like the Original Recipe Bites because it’s pure chicken without the bones. Normally I don’t like eating white meat but it gets better with KFC Bites and it’s always freshly made in-store for that right-off-the-fryer goodness. Plus copious amounts the KFC world-famous gravy.
I attended the KFC media event recently and I learned that there will be a hardbound book containing the Colonel’s manuscript of recipes. There will be an online version of this book, if you’re interested in learning the Colonel’s cooking secrets. You may not be able to get the book thus there will be digital version ready for download at the KFC Facebook page.
I suggest you try and get a copy of this manuscript so you can enjoy some of the Colonel’s recipes with your family.
