Project NOAH: Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards

Just like the Biblical character who built the ark, this NOAH knows when a great flood is about to happen.  All you need to do is go online through their website, and maybe three months from now, on your Android or IOS device. Project NOAH is a project of Dept of Science and Technology (DOST) aimed at providing an early warning system for flood-prone areas. Monsoon season in the Philippines has proven to claim innocent lives because of our inability of evacuate in time. Now, with NOAH, you can plan for your event, trip or contingency with a greater deal of accuracy.

This project has the government’s greenlight as well as the support of companies like Smart Communications, who network is part of Project NOAH’s backbone. This project is one of the most promising, if you ask me. Finally, our government has begun spending money on disaster warning technologies and have made these available to the public.

Attending the event I noticed one thing. The disconnect between the scientists and the citizens. The tool is not very user-friendly. Though when it was demonstrated by Mahar Lagmay, it seemed to be very effective. However, you need to learn how to navigate within the system for some time to fully appreciate its features.
