Why I love Caprice milk tea? Because they use Splenda

If you work in the Eastwood City area, you will realize that after some time, you would have eaten at just about every restaurant in the area. I worked in the area for a good six months and by the first three months, I was starting to get tired of the same-0, same-o food in the area. When asked by expats about where they can have a good meal, my sated self would take a few minutes thinking about the question. Perhaps for a someone who visits Eastwood in the daytime, there would be a great many places to dine and have fun. However, it is a different situation for graveyard workers, which is quite a surprise considering that the graveyard workers outnumber the daytime workers by a small, but significant margin. Most restaurants, especially the ones in the malls are closed leaving the workers with the usual 7-11 and bars. I wish this would change.

For graveyard workers, the challenge of keeping one’s consciousness alert while in the office is not easy. Most need some kind of beverage to keep them awake through the night.  Some can subsist on coffee while others work better when fueled by tea. In my explorations of the neighboring places, the best tea place I found was Caprice. Located in the 4th floor of the Citywalk Mall Cinema area, Caprice is open until 11 and even delivers to your seat inside the cinema. Not bad, if you ask me.

I have problems looking for tea places because most of them use sugar syrup as sweetener, especially for wintermelon milk tea. I like Caprice because I have choice of whether I want black tea or green tea as base for my drink. They use real tea with the leaves and such, unlike other tea places who just serve tea-flavored drinks with tapioca and more sugar. Because I am diabetic, tea drinks are not recommended for me because of the sugar content. This is another reason why I am loyal to Caprice. They have a sugar-free version of their drinks and use Splenda instead of regular sugar. I personally use Splenda because it is a safe alternative when compared to Aspartame (such as that used in Equal), which I heard had been found to produce toxin substances when it is broken down by the body (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame).

If you’re in Eastwood and craving for tea, come to Caprice. Their largest tea is less than P100, around P85 to P90 and they will even deliver this to your seat inside the cinema.
Don’t forget to ask for sugar replacement using Splenda if you are diabetic or just plain conscious about what you eat.  You will see Caprice before you walk into the theater, it’s on your left. No extra charge if you want the Splenda alternative.
