If you are traveling North and you are tired with eating fast food fare, here’s one alternative that is in the same price range, but with more choices and are freshly cooked, not that your favorite fast food doesn’t serve freshly cooked Chinese food.

My favorite has always been Chami noodles. Chami is the name for large egg noodles usually cooked stir-fry and braised. It is not usual for Chami to be served with soup, though the noodles come out of the wok with a little bit of sauce.

Lee Foo serves really good Chami noodles. One double plate only costs P75.00 (US$1.60) which, according to their servers should serve two people.However, my appetite says it’s only good for lil’ ole me. I ate it with warm siopao (steamed bread buns), asado (grilled or barbecue) flavor. However,  most people I saw at the restaurant were ok with the order’s size. Still, it’s cheap!

For P120.00 (US$2.50) you can a filling order of Lechon Kawali (deep fried pork belly) that is so crispy and flavorful. One order could be good enough for two people. My only regret is that they only serve it with commercially available liver sauce. I was hoping they’d make their own.

One of their specialties is the Lumpiang Shanghai Bangus (small rolls containing milkfish).

They deboned one large bangus (milkfish), then put it in small rolls, fry it and serve it hot with a sweet and sour sauce. At P70.00 per order of 14 pieces, this dish is both delicious and healthy.

Superbowl of China is one of my favorite places to go for good Chinese food, without having to travel to Binondo. Being a Makati resident, I always eat at Big Buddha whenever I’m at the Greenbelt 3 area. Food here is not expensive and usually comes in large portions, great for sharing.

Just because it’s fastfood, that doesn’t mean they don’t hire real Chinese chefs. As a matter of fact, the chefs that I met at Superbowl were all Chinese gourmet chefs. I guess only the best and the brightest kitchen geniuses can work wonders with a small budget and work space.

The result? Great food at incredibly affordable prices. Just see the good stuff they serve at Superbowl.
