Google doesn’t even have an index for HotChix, but this one snack food/ value meal that you need to know about. I discovered this great treat while working late nights at my former office at the Fort. Because there weren’t any fastfood joints that were open after 10 pm, I went into Ministop, a 24-hour convenience store, to grab something to eat. I saw HotChix, a kind of chicken nugget meal with rice for only P42.00 (US$0.85) and I asked for one. Guy at the counter said it’ll take five minutes because he needs to cook up a batch. In less time than that, I was served piping-hot HotChix with rice, all for P42.

HotChix vs. McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets

There were only 4 nuggets per order. Freshly cooked and rather spicy, HotChix is my new favorite. It is served with gravy, good-tasting gravy I might add. I must admit HotChix is going to give McDonald’s McNuggets a run for its money.  Unlike the McNuggets, HotChix is softer and juicier on the inside. I love the spicy flavor and that they only cook it when you order it, though I’m sure McDonald’s does the same thing. People will argue that the McNugget is whole chicken breast fillet and thus gives more value. However, HotChix’s advantage is taste. The taste is so Pinoy and it goes lovely with rice and gravy. There is also the price. For the price of an order of McNuggets, you already get two orders of HotChix with rice and drinks!

HotChix is an overlooked food sensation

It’s a big hit but how come no one ever talks about it? I want to personally laud the R & D people of Ministop for continually coming up with great new food choices. Oh especially the Japanese Rice Balls that they had for a time. I hope they bring that back! You can eat the rice with meat on the inside for only P16 (US$0.30). That went great with my HotChix! The downside is that sometimes some Ministop branches RUN OUT of HotChix and GRAVY! But because I scoured the Metro for HotChix, here’s a short list of the Ministop branches that never run out of HotChix.
