Happy Birthday Boss Mel!

Our boss, Ana Melissa Martirez celebrates her birthday with Lawson PSSC for the first time and her team is more than happy to blow the candle alongside her. Boss Mel, as I fondly call her, is from Lexmark, the printer company, based in Cebu. Armed with a degree in Mass Communication from the University of St. La Salle, Melissa brings her years of writing expertise to Lawson PSSC, and how happy are we that she is our boss!

To show our undying love and support, we surprised her with cake and some pancit palabok to which she retaliated with pizza from Yellow Cab, he he.

No reviews here just happy memories from a good day at the office. Our bosses from the US were also treated to some good old-fashioned Lawson merienda. We had Red Ribbon’s pancit palabok, coffee crumble cake and Yellow Cab Pizzas.

Don’t know what this pizza is called, but I it reminds me of S&R’s combo flavor pizza. This is my favorite.

What’s a birthday without cake? Red Ribbon’s Coffee Crumble cake was just the perfect choice for Boss Mel’s birthday. It was everyone’s all-time favorite cake. Yum!

Bacon, glorious bacon!

Homemade bacon is really good and there aren’t that many places where you can buy it. Usually when everyone gets wind of it, the products begin to lose quality and the prices begin to go sky high. I hope Memi’s doesn’t go this way when it becomes big. Here’s my take on some homemade bacon.

This is Memi’s bacon before the frying. A friend of mine said it reminded her of prosciutto ham. According to Memi’s, you need to cook it without oil on a non-stick frying pan, as you would do with supermarket bacon. How wonderful was the aroma that filled the room! I noticed while I was frying it, the oil was really flowing out of the bacon but the meat didn’t shrink as most bacon slices would.

Behold, Memi’s Delight Homemade Bacon when cooked! The smell just enveloped the entire floor, to a point that my next-door neighbor came up to me in the parking lot and asked me what I had for dinner. Compared to commercial bacon, the slices of Memi’s are rather thick and are mostly lean meat. This is why I am not left with a pan of shriveled bacon bits after 5 minutes on the frying pan. There is very minimal fat, just enough to grease the plate a little. One pack is enough for three people with normal appetites. Give Memi’s a call and bring home the bacon. Lars, your guide to Lawson

Yes sir/ma’am, we are moving to our new home at the One World Square building inside the McKinley Hills Town Center. Incidentally, the good people in the St. Paul MN main office came up with a short little video on how Lawson deals with the problems of their clients. I really enjoyed watching the cartoon, it wasn’t cheesy like the other company videos I’ve seen (that QC-based employer I once worked for had the chessiest AVP ever.)

Lawson PSSC is moving to a new and secure facility. I will finally have my own cubicle with a great view of mushrooming air condition compressors. I guess I’ll be the first one to know if one of the air-conditioners is on fire. Terrorists, make no mistake, we have the Philippine Marines for a next-door neighbor, with battle-hardened soldiers from Basilan taking residence. I wonder where they grab their grub?

I hope you guys enjoy this video as much as I did. Note the guy in red and the German guy, they’re Lawson’s competitors. See if you can identify who they are.

Lawson PSSC’s new home in the making

Welcome to One World Square!

Upon entering the building, the employee is greeted by a “we-mean-business” kind of lobby. Straightforward and well-lit, it is quite spartan by Makati office building standards. But, hey, no Etihad passengers here so no need for sofas and queue markers. The hallway above is where the elevators are. There are five elevators.

Just wanted to make sure the spirit of camaraderie is maintained at the new building. A quick pose with the great view in the background. They look like they can’t wait to move in!

Shown here is the entrance to the building. Reminds me of the PLDT call center building at the Fort, probably because of the yellow color (in case you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s that bright colored building beside the Shell gas station inside the Fort). In front of the building is a very large parking lot. For now, parking is free. When the adjacent buildings are finished, they could start charging for parking. Hmm, time to contact my cousin and try asking about the electric bike he’s been telling me about.

This was taken at the open area on the fourth floor. A lot of space for Lawson PSSC employees to move around. Many employees say that the move is a welcome change from the dearth of office space at current headquaters, Net 2 building. Surely, Lawson’s steadily growing Philippine workforce will have all the room they need in this new building.
